The FAA will continue to fund the air traffic control tower at Space Coast Regional Airport, backing off plans to end support at many small U.S. airports.

The closures were to begin June 15, 2013. The FAA planned to eliminate funding for 149 federal contract air traffic control towers as part of the agency's $637 million budget reductions under sequestration.


Florida Highway Patrol officials say a Melbourne man riding a bicycle without a light was hit and killed by a van Thursday evening on Aurora Road. FHP reported a 2008 Ford van hit Allen Leroy Morgan, 41, of Melbourne, who was riding south across Aurora Road about 9:20 p.m. FHP officials said the bicyclist rode into the vehicles path.
