Third Person Dies in South Dakota Motorcycle Rally Crash
Claims Journal-August 8, 2012-According to the article officials are stressing safety at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in western South Dakota, where three bikers have died in a span of about 12 hours. A motorcyclist from Minnesota and another from Indiana died in crashes Sunday. The third motorcyclist was from Colorado and died Monday. Hundreds of thousands of people come to the rally in South Dakotas Black Hills every summer, which began Monday and runs through Sunday. The article goes onto say that four motorcycle deaths were recorded during rally week last year. The most deaths in the past five years occurred in 2010, which nine people died. According to law officers speed and alcohol use are the top concerns for the motorcyclists. The South Dakota Safety Council had a motorcycle safety booth on Main Street in downtown Sturgis for the first time this summer, said Christina Steele, a spokeswoman for the rally. Local and state law enforcement officials are also gearing up to enforce temporary rally-week traffic signals, respond to crashes and other calls and maintain order during the rally.
