Drivers Texting in Use of Medication Cause Crash
Florida Today-April 19, 2011-Andrew Knapp-According to this article a Brevard County driver in a six-car crash while "messed up" on prescription medication and texting. The crash occurred on US-192 in West Melbourne.
Apparently a Ford F-150 crashed into a Chrysler PT Cruiser resulting in a chain-reaction in vehicles stopped for a red light at Wickham Road and US-192. Seven people were injured and eastbound 192 was closed for more than two hours. The pick-up truck, which was traveling near the posted speed limit of 45 mph, rear ended the Chrysler pushing it some 20 feet ahead. According to an eye witness the pick-up truck "didnt hit the brakes." The operator of the pick-up truck, a 27-year-old Indialantic resident, was arrested and charged with driver under the influence. Apparently the driver had taken some "serious" medication. Same time the report indicates the driver was looking at his cell phone regard to a text message.
One vehicle occupant suffered serious back injuries while six others suffered minor injuries. According to a nearby business owner there had been thirty similar accidents in this area over the past two decades. He went onto say "its a miracle no died this time."
