Six Men Settle with Boy Scouts Over Abuse
According to an Associated Press article (9/1) it is reported that "six men who were sexually abused three decades ago by a leader of their Boy Scout Troop have settled lawsuits against the national organization dedicated to building character among youngsters." The settlement followed a trial in which the Scouts were accused of failing to act for decades on a growing trove documents alleging sexual abuseknown in the organization as "the perversion files." "The jury" found the Texan-based Boy Scout of America negligent for allowing a former assistant Scout master to associate with Scouts after he admitted to a Scouts official in 1983 that he molested 17 boys." According to a New York Times article on this same issue (9/2, A25, Scelye) is it reported "the lawyers said their clients had to decided to settle because there cases would have gone on for years."
