Brevard Community College Offers Cocoa Playhouse to the City of Cocoa
Florida Today-May 18, 2010-Michelle Spitzer-The Brevard Community College Board of Trustees voted 4-1 to transfer ownership of the Cocoa Village Playhouse to the city in which it resides-Cocoa-if Cocoa wants it back. According to the article, Cocoa city counselor members have said they would explore the possibility after taking a look at the theaters finances. Brevard Community College vice chair, Steven G. Charpentier likened the deal to a child who is matured and is ready to leave home. "I see this as a situation where BCC took a child that was in dyer need," Charpentier said. "Wasnt going to survive without our help. It wasnt going to breathe without our help. We nurtured this child. The child grew, the child got strong...now its time to the spread the wings and go." "Its not for us to say were going to hold you back on tether because were going to make you pay ever nickel you took from us." Short, the Cocoa Village Playhouse is not fit the core mission of Brevard Community College but does, in fact, fit squarely into the core mission of the city of Cocoa.
