Dianese (Motorcycle Apparel Company) is currently developing two different platforms for their "D-air system", one purely for the track and one design for street riders. One of the persons involved in developing the product, Alessandro Bellati, "since we started developing the system in 2006 it has changed massively. Initially, the air bag sat on the rider shoulders, outside of the leather suit, and once inflated was designed to protect the rider shoulders and collar bones in the event of a crash. ...... but we soon found that it wasnt practical so we started looking at building a system into the riders leather suit. The latest D-air design ..... is completely incorporated into the suit. We have developed a special leather for the shoulder areas that stretches when the air bag goes off, meaning that the suit looks the same as a normal set of leathers and isnt bulky and un aerodynamic, yet has the air bag built in. Another advantage is that the rider can re-mount and race on after a crash if the air bag is built into the suit, it deflates quickly and doesnt affect the suits structure at all."
