Sneel Adopts M2010 Helmet Standard
Motorcycle Consumer News-October 2009-October 2009 marked the introduction of the newly revised helmet performance standard of the Sneel Memorial Foundation. The Sneel M2010 Standard incorporates of a number of significant changes over the M2005 Standards. One of the changes effective with the Standard is the reduction of the allowable impact level from 300 G to 275 G for helmet sizes XXXS, XXS, XS, S, M, and L. This number drops to 264 G for helmet size XL and to 243 G for helmet size XXL. This means in order to conform to the new M2010 Sneel Standard a helmet must prevent more of the impact force reaching the helmet wearers head than is allowed under the M2005 Standard. Another significant change is that head forms used during the drop tests are no longer the fixed 5Kg, regardless of helmet size. The Standard provides for head form weights in six graduated increments ranging from 3.1Kg through 6.1Kg for the different size helmets.
