Florida Supreme Court certifies the need for nineteen
additional Circuit court judges and forty two County court judges
In the Florida Supreme Court=s annual certification letter (01/17/2008) Chief Justice, R. Fred Lewis certified the need for nineteen additional circuit court judges and forty two county judges, including two county court judges for Brevard County. According to Justice Lewis, "trial court judges are on the front line in dispensing justice; their work is vital to our citizens and businesses who expect the judicial branch to resolve issues fairly, peaceably, expeditiously, and in a manor that promotes the rule of law . . . Florida's trial court judges stand as guardians of our constitutional freedoms as they insure access to the courts, protect vulnerable citizens and insure that the courts remain open, operational and functioning at maximum capacity." We all know that Brevard County is in need of additional judges. Brevard County's consistently over crowded dockets make it difficult for Brevard County judges to administer justice in a fair, effective and expeditious manner. Currently, Brevard County has courthouses in Titusville, Merritt Island, Viera and Melbourne.
