Florida Legislation Regarded Distracted Drivers
AARP Bulletin-April 2011-According to this article AARP Driver Safety instructors in Florida are speaking out in support of legislation that would "put the brakes on distractive driving."
Statistics reveal the following:
1. Drivers using cell phones are involved in crashes that kill nearly 1,000 Americans per year.
2. Drivers using cell phones are involved in crashes that injure nearly 24,000 Americans per year.
One victim, a 26-year-old, was killed while riding with her fiancee to meet with a wedding planner. 2010 a bill that would ban texting while driving did not pass the Florida legislature. As of this date 30 states and the District of Columbia have outlawed texting while driving. AARP is asking its members to urge the Florida legislature to support and pass a texting ban for Florida.
