Zero Motorcycles is recalling certain model year 2009 0S motorcycles built from 9-2-2009 through 12-20-2009: model year 2009 0DS motorcycles built from 7-27-2009 through 12-28-2009: model year 2010 0S motorcycles built from 2-1-2010 through 3-31-2011 and model year 2010 0DS motorcycles built from 1-20-2010 through 3-31-2010. Apparently the front brake caliber bracket may experience permanent deformation when subjected to high braking loads. This condition could indulge misalignment of the front brake pads with respect to the front brake roader.
Zero Motorcycles is concerned that misalignment of the brake pads in relation to the roader may cause reduced front braking performance, which could lead to a possible crash and potential injury or death.
Zero Motorcycle dealers will replace the front brake caliber bracket with a redesigned component and replace the front brake pads in case the existing pads experienced abnormal ware. The dealer will also inspect the front brake fluid and, if signs of over heating are noted, the fluid will be replaced and the system will be flushed. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during May of 2011. Owners may contact Zero Motorcycles at 888-786-9376, extension 45. NHTSA Campaign ID#: 11V282000

Ducati is recalling certain model year 2010 through 2011 Multi Strada 1200, and model year 2011, Diavel motorcycles. The electronic steering lock may fail to disengage during the motor vehicle “key-on” process. According to Ducati this has been linked directly to a certain revision of the hands-free device software. It could result in a situation where the motorcycle’s engine might start while the steering lock is still engaged. Under such circumstances a motorcycle rider could start the motorcycle in attempt to ride away while the steering is still locked.
Ducati fears that the rider, under such circumstances could experience the inability to steer, increasing the risk of low speed tip-over or collision, thus increasing the potential for injury to the rider (or passenger).
Ducati dealers will update the software of the hands-free control unit free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during May, 2011. Owners may contact Ducati at 800-231-6696. NHTSA Campaign ID#: 11V253000.
