Motorcycle Recall of 2008-2009 Kawasaki KLR 650

Posted under: Product Liability — Charpentier Steve @ 6:26 am

Motorcycle Consumer News-Volume 40 No. 5-May 2009-Kawasaki is recalling MY2008-2009 KLR 650 (KLR 650 E8F/L, KLR 650 E9F/L) motorcycles. The muffler assembly is secured to the frame of the motorcycle by two bolts. It is possible that heat expansion cycles of the muffler, combined with vibration from vehicle operation may cause loosening of the muffler mounting bolts. If the bolts loosen completely it is possible for the muffler to separate from the motorcycle creating a risk of crash resulting in injury or death. Kawasaki dealers will remove the paint from the muffler mount tabs and replace the mount bolts, nut and washer free of charge. Owners may contact Kawasaki Motorcycles at 866-802-9381. Campaign ID#: 09V05900

Kawasaki Motorcycle Recall

Posted under: Product Liability — Charpentier Steve @ 7:29 am

Motorcycle Consumer News-Volume 40 No. 5-May 2009-With respect to the model 2009 Volcan 2000 there’s a recall on the exterior lighting: headlights. Kawasaki is recalling 18 MY 2009 Volcan 2000 motorcycles. Apparently these motorcycles failed to comply with their requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety standard number 108 “lamps, Reflective Devices and Associated Equipment.” The headlight assembly includes multiple bulbs and lens elements. The none compliant head lamps were assembled with lens incorrectly positioned, affecting photo metric performance. As a result inadequate lighting could reduce the visibility of the motorcycle increasing their risk of a crash. Kawasaki dealers will inspect the headlight assembly and replace it free of charge. Kawasaki Motorcycles may be contacted at 866-802-9381. NATS Campaign ID#: 09V0972000

United States Military Striving for Motorcycle Rider Safety

Posted under: Motorcycle — Charpentier Steve @ 10:59 am

Motorcycle.com-Jeff Cobb April 16, 2009-From October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008 the United States Department of Defense reported 125 motorcycle riders killed. According to this study the U.S. Army lost 51 soldiers, the Navy lost 33 sailors and the Marines lost 25 soldiers. The Air Force, the only branch reporting an improving record, had 15 motorcyclist fatalities (it’s fewest since 2001). Although the United States Coast Guard was unable to supply hard data it does share motorcycle safety concerns with the four larger military branches. Most of the soldiers killed were riding sport bikes. The military is taking steps to motivate riders toward safer practices to apply principles of “risk management” to motorcyclists training.

Child Waivers

Posted under: Premise Liability — Charpentier Steve @ 10:59 am

Orlando Sentinel-April 17, 2009-Guest of Walt Disney World who wanted to cruise along the lakes and lagoons at the facility can rent everything from 2-person Sea Raycers to Pontoon Boats-as long as they sign a waiver of liability that insulates Disney from lawsuits should anything go wrong on the water. Disney wants parents to sign these releases for themselves and on behalf of their young children. The intent of these releases apparently, is to insulate Disney from accidents in which they might be negligent. A recent Florida State Supreme Court ruling invalidated such parental waivers. Disney and other Florida tourism industry members are attempting to overturn this supreme court ruling and protect themselves from their own wrong doing.
