Brevard County Woman Stabbed

Florida Today-April 8, 2009-Kaustv Basu-A Cocoa man K.J. Britt, repeatedly stabbed a woman he was dating, placed her unconscious body in the trunk of his automobile and then left her in the woods near Industry Road in Cocoa, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s office. This man, a sex offender, has been placed under arrest and faces charges of attempted murder and kidnaping. His 23-year-old girlfriend, is of April 7, 2009, is in serious condition.

U.S. Supreme Courts Preemption Ruling Opens Door to Consumer Rights

LawyersUSA Issue 3/2009-Kimberly Atkins-According to this article the U.S. Supreme Courts recently ruling that State law drug claims are not automatically preempted by federal law is expected to open the doors to consumer litigation. In short, this ruling, according to Brian Wolfman, Director of Public Citizen Litigation Group, “affirms that preemption is the exception and not the rule.” In the subject case, Wyeth V. Levine, the U.S. Supreme Court up held a 6 million state court verdict for Diana Levine, a Vermont woman who lost her arm after being injected with the anti nausea drug Phenergan.

Pineda Causeway to Eventually Connect with Interstate 95 in Brevard County

Florida Today-April1, 2009-Rick Neal-Somewhere between 18 months and two years from now a new four lane roadway should pass through Brevard County connecting a congested Wickham with Interstate 95. According to this article a groundbreaking ceremony takes place April 7, 2009, for the second phase for the Pineda Causeway extension in Brevard County. A 1.8-mile stretch of asphalt will connect Pineda Causeway to an Interstate 95 interchange which is currently under construction.

Four Woman Arrested for Prostitution

Florida Today-March 25, 2009-According to this article Melbourne Police arrested four women on March 24, 2009 on charges of solicitation for prostitution. The arrest occurred in the southern part of Melbourne. One of the women faces an additional charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Another faces an additional charge of paraphernalia.

Brevard County Woman Struck by Pick-Up Truck Remains in Hospital

Florida Today-March 25, 2009-According to this article a 36-year-old woman remained in critical condition on March 24, 2009, a date after being struck by a pick-up truck while crossing a roadway during rush hour. This motor vehicle verse pedestrian crash occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. on March 24, 2009 at Wickham Road and Post Road in front of the Brevard Community College Melbourne Campus. The injured woman was air lifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center where she received care and treatment.

A 3-Motor Vehicle Wreck on Southbound Interstate 95 n Rockledge, Brevard County Causes Traffic Delays

Florida Today-March 13, 2009-J.D. Gallop-According to the article hundreds of motorists faced long delays on interstate 95 in Brevard County after a string of accidents left the southbound lanes blocked in a construction zone. Apparently three separate accidents occurred recently just before 9:00 a.m. in the morning. Fog and smoke along with traffic congestion was cited by the Florida Highway Patrol as contributors.

Man Accused of Rape Enters Guilt Plea

Florida Today-March 12, 2009-Keyonna Summers-Javier Davis, another suspect in a 2007 rape and attack on a young couple near Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach, Brevard County, pleading recently guilty. The sentencing will occur on May 4th, before Brevard County Circuit Court Judge George Turner at the Moore Justice Center in Viera. This article state Davis could serve as much as 40 years in Florida State prison.
