Car accidents cost millions of dollars in medical expenses, property damage, and lost wages per year. You can help prevent auto accidents by following the listed safety information.

Always be aware of your blind spot especially when you are backing out of a parking spot. Many people check quickly to see if another car is coming or if pedestrians are walking before backing up. When backing out of a parking spot make sure you turn your head and look back, look at both side views, as well as check your rear view mirror. You will be able to see your blind spot by doing so. It only takes a few seconds longer to be cautious versus having to go through an insurance claim, fixing the damage done to your vehicle, etc.

When at a stoplight or stop sign always look to the left, right and then back to the left and right again. Many times a vehicle, bicyclist or pedestrian is coming around the corner that you did not see the first time. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Do not rush at stoplights to be first. Many times lanes go from two to one and people think that they have to be first to leave the stoplight or stop sign. For some reason people want to be first in line while driving in these areas. If you rush too fast, you may miss seeing someone who was slow to turn during a yellow light and their light has turned red, yet they are still out in the intersection. Or perhaps a person in an oncoming car thought he or she could make the yellow light and did not; not only did he/she drive through but the person behind him/her did, too. By rushing you will end up being first in line to your own car accident.

Always check your blind spot especially when changing lanes on a freeway. You need to make sure that another car is not in your blind spot.

If you are at a stop sign or a stoplight, make sure you are cautious when pulling out into traffic. If a vehicle drives past you that you are waiting for so you can pull out, do not step on the gas pedal as soon as the vehicle has driven by. Make sure the vehicle does not have a trailer behind it. Low tow trailers are very hard to see when driving.

To help prevent a car accident be extra cautious around trucks. Trucks have a very hard time seeing cars and truck accidents can be deadly.
